A device is provided which allows a user to reliably restrain a hand or a leg of an attacker or the like while preventing the user from being physically harmed. The device includes a restraint unit provided at one end of an operating rod, and a lock unit provided on the operating rod. The restraint unit has a pair of gripping members independent from each other and each having a curved inner surface, the gripping members being pivotally attached to a supporting member fixedly secured to a front end of a sliding bar slidably inserted in the operating rod, and also pivotally attached to swinging plates which are pivotally attached to a supporting element through which the sliding bar is slidably inserted. The lock unit includes a rack-type engagement portion having saw-toothed projections formed on a sliding member fixedly secured to the sliding bar, and a locking portion having a locking piece to be engaged with the rack-type engagement portion. The rack-type engagement portion and the locking piece cause the sliding member to slide only toward a rear end of the operating rod, and when the supporting member is moved backward, the pair of gripping members are closed. |
