The present invention relates to a method for evaluating the quality of an analysis element which is useful for determining the concentration of an analyte in a liquid sample, and to an analysis system which implements such a method. A reaction of the sample with a reagent system includes a complex formation of at least an enzyme and a co-enzyme, wherein a chemically modified form of the co-enzyme is a fluorophore. The quantity and/or the luminescence properties of said fluorophore relate to the concentration of the analyte.
