Said aim is achieved in that the pulsed light source (5) operates in a burst mode in such a manner that the pulsed light source (5) emits a sequence of pulse packets (6), which each comprise two or more consecutive light pulses. The invention further relates to a device for producing light pulses, comprising a pulsed light source (5) which emits a sequence of light pulses, an optical amplifying medium (17) which is optically pumped by the light pulses and produces useful radiation (21) as a result, and a multi-pass assembly (19) which ensures that the useful radiation (21) passes through the optical amplifying medium (17) several times. The pulsed light source (5) operates in a burst mode in such a manner that the pulsed light source (5) emits a sequence of pulse packets (6) that each comprise two or more consecutive light pulses.
