[Class 120 (ii).] In a yarn - winding machine for producing crosswound packages in which a grooved cam drum reciprocates the thread guide, the latter is engaged with the cam groove by means of a roller and a pivoted tongue, so that where the grooves intersect, the tongue ensures that the roller follows the correct groove ; the ends of the drum are reduced in diameter so that the tongue is freed from the groove in order that it may change its direction, whereas the roller is still in engagement with the groove. The thread guide carriage 8 carries a pin 10 on which are separately pivoted a roller 12 and a tongue 11. The tongue ensures that the roller crosses straight over at the intersections C in the cam groove. The ends 13 of the cam drum 4 are reduced in diameter so that the groove is there only deep enough to accommodate the roller 12, the tongue 11 being free to swing round so that it can re-enter the oppositely inclined portion of the groove. It is stated that the cam drum may be driven by a gear train from the cop spindle, the cop preferably being driven by a friction roller.
