398,342. Door-operating appliances. POTTER RAX GATE CO., Ltd., Wilton Works, Shepperton Road, Islington, and COLEMAN, F. G., 104, Croydon Road, Anerley, both in London. Sept. 2, 1932, No. 24495. [Class 65 (i).] A sliding or collapsable gate or door is arranged to be automatically closed after being partially closed by hand, the movement of the gate towards the closed position tripping a catch to bring into action a spring which is stressed during the opening movement. The device, shown applied to a lazy-tongs gate, comprises a cylinder D, slidably mounted on a rod A fixed above the gate, and a spring inside the cylinder between the righthand end of the latter and a stop fixed on the rod A, so that the spring is compressed by movement of the cylinder towards the left. The right-hand end of the cylinder has a lateral lug C which is engaged by a projecting member F mounted on a member J of the gate. As the gate is opened, the cylinder is pushed back by the member F until the lug C is engaged by a spring-pressed catch E pivotally mounted above the gateway. Immediately after this the member F, which is slidably mounted in a housing P, Fig. 3, on the gate, is drawn down against a spring N in the housing by a roller Q on the member F engaging a projection G on the gate track bar H, so that the member F passes under and releases the lug C on the cylinder and the gate is free of the cylinder for further opening. During the closing movement, immediately after the member F passes under and comes to the right of the lug C on the cylinder a bracket M on the housing P engages a depending part K of the catch E and moves the catch to free the cylinder, which is then moved to the right by the spring within it, carrying the gate to the closed position by engagement of the parts C, F. The part K of the catch E is pivoted so that it can swing upwards to the left when the bracket M engages it during the opening of the gate. Specifications 2358/08, 16367/08, 25376/08, [all in Class 65, Hinges &c.], 23220/09, 13915/13, 339,090, [all in Class 65 (i), Door and gate operating appliances &c.], and 379,655 are referred to. |
