The present invention relates to an FMA unit (42) which is used to execute the operation in a model calculation unit (3) of a control device (1). Two multiplicands and one summand with floating point values can be processed as input variables. The calculation result as the output variable is provided as another floating point value. The FMA unit (42) is formed to execute multiplications and subsequent addition thereto. The bit resolution of the input units for the multiplicants is lower than the bit resolution of the output variable and the bit resolution of the input units for the summand.
