PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrostatic coating apparatus which increases strength of an electric field formed between an external electrode and an object to be coated, and an electrostatic charge amount of coating material particles, and can aim at improvement in deposition efficiency when performing electrostatic coating using a conductive coating material of an aqueous coating material or the like. SOLUTION: The electrostatic coating apparatus 1 includes: a coating gun 4 having a bell cup 4a which is an atomizing part for making a coating material atomize; an external electrode 6 having a needle electrode 7 which forms an electric field E with an object to be coated which is a workpiece 2; a high voltage generator 5 which impresses high voltage to the needle electrode 7; and a controller 10 which controls high voltage impressed by the high voltage generator 5. In addition, the electrostatic coating apparatus 1 for performing electrostatic coating using a conductive coating material includes a peripheral part 8d which is a shielding part consisting of an insulator, and shields a space between an end part 7a of the needle electrode 7 and the coating gun 4 (the bell cup 4a in detail).
