The present invention relates to a light emitting diode and a manufacturing method thereof. The light emitting diode according to the present invention includes: a substrate which has one or more patterns formed on an area; a first semiconductor layer which is stacked on the substrate and formed along the patterns on the substrate; a light emitting layer stacked and formed on the first semiconductor layer; and a second semiconductor layer stacked and formed on the light emitting layer.
