Provided are a method and an apparatus for a point-based volume rendering. The provided point-based volume rendering method includes the following steps of: generating a point set composed of multiple points by mapping a voxel of volume data on a point and storing the generated point set in a buffer; performing a validity check based on a predefined function about the stored point set; visualizing volume data of multiple valid points generated by the validity check; and automatically controlling the resolution of a final image by sampling the visualized volume data.
