[Class 75 (iii)] A pyrophoric lighter for pocket or table use comprises a body 1 packed with absorbent material and having a recessed base 2 fitted with a filling plug 3, a flint tube 4 housed in the body and having a forked upper end 8 carrying a steel striking wheel 7, and a snuffer 10 fitting over the wick holder 9 and carried by a semicircular arm 11 which is mounted on a spindle 12 and has an extension 15 formed with a thumb piece 14 arranged adjacent the operating knob 17 of the striking wheel 7. The thumb piece 14 is held against unintentional movement in the open and closed positions by a spring 8. The space at the bottom of the body may be closed by a cap or loaded base 19 and may serve for the storage of spare flints, wicks, &c. The body is preferably shaped to resemble a book.</p> |
