Systems and methods for ranking documents

A computer implemented method and system for ranking documents are disclosed. The computer implemented method comprises receiving a first query from a user. The first query is related to a search topic. The first query is compared to a plurality of documents stored in a database to identify a set of candidate documents with each of the set of candidate documents matching the first query. An interface is provided to the user with the interface including references to the set of candidate documents. A second query is received from the user with the second query being related to the search topic. The first query and second query are compared to the plurality of documents to identify an updated set of candidate documents with each of the updated set of candidate documents matching one or more of the first and second queries. For the updated set of candidate documents, a count of matching queries is determined. Using a computer processor, the updated set of candidate documents is ranked for relevance to the search topic based at least on the count of matching queries for each respective candidate document; and an updated interface is provided to the user with the updated interface including references to one or more of the ranked candidate documents and the count of matching queries for each respective one or more of the ranked candidate documents. A second computer implemented method and system for ranking documents are also disclosed. The computer implemented method comprises providing an interface, to a user with the interface including a representation of a plurality of queries previously executed by the user. The queries are executed on a database comprising a plurality of documents to determine a set of candidate documents matching at least one of the queries. A user selection of a subset of the queries is received and a count of the selected queries that match the candidate documents is determined. Using a computer processor, the candidate documents are ranked based at least on the count of matching selected queries; and an updated interface is provided to the user with the updated interface including references to one or more of the ranked candidate documents and the count of matching queries for each respective one or more of the ranked candidate documents.
