Disclosed are a method, device, and system for proximity service authorization. A first request message transmitted by a first user equipment is received via a first network side entity, where the first request message comprises identity information of the first user equipment and an application identifier; whether or not the first user equipment is capable of engaging in a proximity service corresponding to the application identifier is determined at least on the basis of proximity service configuration data of the first user equipment acquired. This implements authorization and authentication by a first proximity service server of two pieces of user equipment that need a proximity service and allows for ensured quality of service of the proximity service for the user equipment.
