An embodiment of the present invention adds an enhanced Ethernet interface to a hard disk, for communicating with a network based on an enhanced Ethernet protocol. The enhanced Ethernet interface is used to communicate with a network based on the enhanced Ethernet protocol so as to process a received packet according to physical layer and link layer protocols; a first processor processes the received packet according to transport layer and network layer protocols; a second processor processes the received packet according to application layer service logic; and a hard disk controller operates a hard disk drive according to instructions in the received packet. |
