PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a product for ophthalmology including a soft hydrogel contact lens capable of mitigating initial discomfort of a wearer.SOLUTION: A product for ophthalmology includes a sealed and sterilized package containing a packaging solution and a soft hydrogel contact lens immersed in the packaging solution. In this case, the packaging solution contains: a homopolymer or copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone; a glycerin or polyethylene glycol having the average molecular weight of 600 or smaller; anα-oxo-polyacid or a salt thereof in an amount sufficient to decrease sensitivity of the polyethylene glycol in the packaging solution to oxidative decomposition; and one or more buffer agents in an amount sufficient to provide a pH of from about 6.0 to about 8.0 to the solution. The packaging solution has an osmolarity of about 200 to about 450 mOsm/kg.
