摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium in which the surface of a magnetic layer is extremely smooth and which has excellent recording/reproducing characteristics and traveling characteristics.SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium of the present invention has: a non-magnetic support body; a nonmagnetic layer containing non-magnetic powder, binder and lubricant which is formed on one principal surface of the non-magnetic support body; a magnetic layer containing magnetic powder and binder which is formed on the principal surface on the opposite side of the non-magnetic support body side of the nonmagnetic layer; and a back coat layer which is formed on a surface on the opposite side of a surface of the non-magnetic support body on which the nonmagnetic layer is formed. The non-magnetic support body is made of a plastic film, the magnetic powder is hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder, surface roughness of the magnetic layer is 1 nm or more and less than 2 nm, and when a spacing of the surface of the magnetic layer before and after washing the lubricant by n-hexane is measured by a TSA (Tape Spacing Analyzer), a value of the spacing after washing is 3 to 10 nm, and a value of the spacing before washing is smaller than the value of the spacing after the washing by 1 to 5 nm.</p>
