A system and method for transferring fuel in flight from a tanker aircraft to multiple receiver aircraft

A trailing boom system for aerial refuelling of multiple receiver aircraft comprises a parent pod 208 capable of being connected to a wing 108 of an aircraft. A detachable pod 210 is releasable from the parent pod 208. The detachable pod 210 comprises an extendible boom 212 which can be manoeuvred to engage with a receiving aircraft in-flight. The arrangement enables multiple aircraft to be refuelled at any one time since more than one parent pod can be fitted to the aircraft wings.
