<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved surgical stapling instrument for creating one or more rows of staples. <P>SOLUTION: This surgical stapling instrument includes a first jaw member, a second jaw member, and a cutting member. In at least one embodiment of the invention, the surgical stapling instrument can further include a housing which can at least partially extend over and/or around the cutting member.
