A tip protector for an instrument such as an endoscope or borescope has two legs 14,16 biased into an open or closed position and a nose 12 which guards the tip of the instrument. The nose extends beyond the tip such that it abuts the periphery of the end surface of the instrument but not the middle. Fingers 26 may extend proximally from an inside surface of the nose to restrain the tip of the instrument. The protector has gripping members to grip the shaft of the instrument: these may be a split collar 34, fingers (385, 387 figure 13) or inclined apertures (531,533, figure 18). A leg may be located on each side of the nose, forming a U-shape, or they may be hinged together concertina style and depend from the nose (figure 18). Apertures in the protector provide for drainage and air flow; the legs may latch together; the protector may be single-use. |
