<p>An electrical energy trap comprises one or more diodes are inserted in series with an electrical load powered by an AC mains supply to make more efficient use of power being consumed by some inductive an regulated loads such as a switch mode power supply. The starting, working and maximum forward voltage (fig 6) and the maximum forward current of the diodes are chosen to achieve a required energy efficiency. The switch on time delay or period in the AC cycle may be adjusted by using the forward voltage of the diodes, the delay being increased by adding series diodes. The circuit can be in series with more than one load and used in three phase applications. In a by-product lighting circuit the type and number of components can be selected to raise or lower the voltage drop across the lighting circuit to alter its effect on the work done by the load.</p> |
