A radio network (22) provides to a user equipment (UE) (20) an indication of a minimum UE capability requirement (202). The UE (20) checks this against its own capabilities and indicates the presence of enhanced radio services to its upper layers only if the UE (20) satisfies the indicated minimum UE capability requirement (204). In examples, the enhanced radio services are services of LTE-Advanced and upper layers display an icon or other visual identifier on the UE to inform the user of the presence of the LTE-Advanced services. The invention allows a network operator to define a minimum feature set that needs to be supported in the network and UE before the UE indicates on a display that there is LTE_A coverage. Various embodiments of the indication are presented: a capability category; a flag indicating a selected list of eNB categories such as a feature group; a bitmap; and others.
