[Problem] To provide: a film that has high film strength and is thus capable of inhibit the penetration of roots, that has excellent nutrient permeability and thus promotes the growth of plant bodies, and that is suitable as a film for plant cultivation; a method for producing the film; and a method for cultivating plants by using the film. [Solution] The disclosed film is made by using polyvinyl alcohol and a polycarboxylic acid, in which the carboxyl group(s) thereof may be neutralized, at a mass ratio of from 65:35 to 95:5, and has a softening point of 75 to 90°C. The disclosed method for producing a film involves a step of applying a thermal treatment for 6 to 14 minutes at a temperature within the range of 130 to 170°C to a film prepared from a liquid material that contains polyvinyl alcohol and a polycarboxylic acid, in which the carboxyl group(s) thereof may be neutralized, at a mass ratio of from 65:35 to 95:5. The disclosed method for cultivating plants involves cultivating a plant in a manner such that the plant is placed in direct contact with said film. |
