<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which can keep high output even in a harsh environment. <P>SOLUTION: A light emitting device comprises a metal reflecting member, a light emitting element fixed to the metal reflecting member, an essential glass film that covers the metal reflecting member and has Si-N bonds, and a translucent resin that covers the glass film. The glass film preferably exists at an interface between the metal reflecting member and the translucent resin, and it is preferably provided with Si-H bonds. Its thickness is preferably more than 0.05 μm and less than 5 μm.
