PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the responsiveness of a damping force by preventing the stirring of an oil in a reservoir and avoiding the introduction of the air into a hydraulic fluid chamber. SOLUTION: A free piston 200 is provided on the inner circumference of an inner tube 12 and at the upper side part of a partition wall portion 19A in a hydraulic shock absorber 10. The free piston 200 is disposed in close contact with the inner circumference of the inner tube 12 and the outer circumference of a piston rod 23 and freely slidably. The reservoir 22 is divided into an oil storing chamber 22A between the free piston 200 and the partition wall portion 19A and an air chamber 22B at the upper part of the free piston 200.
