The present invention relates to a safety device for a motor vehicle having an inflatable airbag that is adapted such that it extends over an exterior side of a windscreen in the inflated state. The safety device further comprises a return device that is adapted such that it pulls the inflated airbag at least partially off from the windscreen by means of a return cord. The return cord passes through cord openings that are established in the airbag, alternating inside and outside the airbag.
