An electrode of a storage battery comprises a porous nickel support having within its pores a nickel oxide or hydroxide formed by (a) immersing the nickel support in an aqueous solution of an oxygenated ammonium, aluminium or nickle salt; expressing the support to saturated steam; immersing in a solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, washing and drying and (b) forming the remainder of the active material by either chemical precipitation or cathodic polarization.
