PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can easily alleviate a shock at low cost when a sheet stacking part descends. SOLUTION: A guide rail 122 engaged with a guide pin 204d and controls movement for descending an intermediate plate 201 of a lifting mechanism when drawing out a paper feed cassette 200 is provided in an attachment or detachment direction of the paper feed cassette 200 in a space where a full color laser printer body is mounted. Moreover, when the intermediate plate 201 descends as the paper feed cassette 200 is drawn, a descending speed of the intermediate plate 201 is decreased by moving the guide pin 204d so that the guide pin is engaged with the guide rail 122.
