417,199. Slicing-machines. GOULDING, W. G., and AUTOMATIC SCALE CO., Ltd., Broadheath, Altrincham, Cheshire. April 1, 1933, No. 9815. [Class 28 (ii).] A last-slice holder d mounted for angular feed movements to compensate for an initial taper in the substance being sliced, is hinged at f to the carrying frame c and is urged, by coil springs g surrounding the pivot pin away from the carrying frame, i.e. into the inclined position. A rod is pivoted at h to the back of the holder d and passes into a sleeve c<4> extending rearwardly from the frame c. The rod j has a pawl tip j<1> which engages teeth k inside the sleeve, a spring j<3> normally holding the pawl in engagement with the teeth. A handle j<2> is provided for disengagement. The pawl may be provided on the sleeve and the teeth on the rod j. The pawl engagement holds the holder d against the action of the coil springs g. In one manner of operation, the angular movements of the holder are effected by the cam l abutting against a stop of the reciprocating carriage, and in another manner of operation, a pivoted member q on the holder engages a stop or stops on a lazy-tongs member n, one member n<1> of the lazy-tongs being pivoted at m to the reciprocating carriage, whilst a member n at the other end is pivoted at n<3> to a member o which advances with the feed table b. The member q is swung down to lie between the stops p<1>, p, which stops move towards the cutting plane at a rate which is slower than the bodily feed movement of the holder. This arrangement is used for slicing long pieces of meat &c. In order to prevent fouling of the knife by incomplete projection of the meatholding prongs, a pivoted lever r is provided, one end of which engages a stop as the lastslice holder approaches the cutting plane, the other end carrying a wedge-shaped cam r<4> which engages a correspondingly shaped cam s on a crank-arm e on the prong-projecting lever. According to the Provisional Specification, a moving stop engaging the member q is carried by an arrangement of links. |
