A particle filtering material

A particle filtering material characterised in that the filter material is a foam in which planar structures are located which are formed from a liquid. Preferably the liquid is a viscous thixotropic or pseudoplastic liquid. Preferably the liquid is a polyacrylic acid solution to which chitosan (low molecular weight) is added and then treated with ultrasound before glycerol is added. A dispersion of wheat fibre HT, coated with 10% palmitic acid may be added before the liquid mixture is sucked into the foam and then dried. Advantageously the filtering material provides an effective particle filtering function of heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs), which is stable over time and has reduced complexity. The filter material may be suitable both for particle filtration and for humidifying breathing air or gas.
