An actively shielded (2), cylindrical NMR gradient coil system generates a Z-gradient field. and The main gradient coil (1a,1b) is constructed from two axially spaced partial coils. A passive RF shield (3) is provided that is constructed from at least three electrically interconnected partial sections (3a,3b,3c). The mid section is radially further from the Z axis than the gradient coils, which are otherwise radially outside the rf shield. Also shown are stepped rf shields with more than three sections, and complete surrounding of the partial coils by the rf shield. |
