<p>Coating compositions comprise triacontane (C30 H62) dissolved in solvents such as diethyl ether, toluene, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate. Cellulose derivatives, plasticizers, natural resins such as dammar, processed dammar, manila and acaroides and synthetic resins such as fusible and soluble phenol-formaldehyde resins may be added. Processed dammar is prepared in solution by warming Batavia or Singapore dammar with benzene, slowly adding warm ethyl alcohol to the solution with stirring and removing the precipitated wax-like impurities by settling or centrifuging.ALSO:The permeability to moisture of materials such as cellulose, regenerated cellulose or cellulose derivatives in the form of textile material such as yarns and fabrics, paper, plastic compositions, films, or foils is reduced by applying thereto or incorporating therein triacontane (C30 H62), preferably dissolved in solvents such as diethyl ether, toluene, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate. Cellulose derivatives, plasticizers, natural resins such as dammar, processed dammar, manila and acaroides and synthetic resins such as fusible and soluble phenol-formaldehyde resins may be included in the solution. The processed dammar is prepared in solution by warming Batavia or Singapore dammar with benzene, slowly adding warm ethyl alcohol to the solution with stirring and removing the precipitated wax-like impurities by settling or centrifuging. The cellulose derivative included in the solution is preferably one having solubility characteristics different from those of the cellulose derivatives contained in the materials treated. The treating solution may be applied by brushing spraying or dipping.ALSO:The permeability to moisture of materials such as cellulose, regenerated cellulose or cellulose derivatives in the form of plastic compositions, is reduced by applying thereto or incorporating therein triacontane (C30 H62) preferably dissolved in solvents such as diethyl ether, toluene, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate.
