The present invention relates to a robust coexistence method for ultra-wideband (UWB)-based wireless body area networks (WBAN) and WiMedia networks. The robust coexistence method for UWB-based WBANs and WiMedia networks allows WBAN devices to efficiently share channels with WiMedia devise, body-implemented sensors to transmit/receive data using related reserved BAN periods (RBP), and the body-implemented sensors not to send beacons to manage the networks, thereby saving more energy. According to the present invention, the WBAN devices can share the channels through a WiMedia MAC protocol more efficiently. Also, more energy can be saved since the body-implemented sensors can transmit and receive data during the related RBPs and do not require the WBAN devices to send arbitrary beacons. Since the WBAN devices generate very small traffic, a data frame payload transferred during a data transmission period is very small. Since various media access schemes provided by IEEE 802.15.6 standard, which can provide QoS, can be used for these devices during the RBPs, Qos can be assured during the RBPs. Additionally, since the WiMedia devices consider the RBPs reserved and do not attempt to use a channel during the RBPs, the QoS can be assured during the RBPs.
|
