The optical radiation including light exhibiting at least a first set of wavelengths and a second set of wavelengths, in which the first set of wavelengths is preferred for a dermatologic treatment. The dermatologic treatment device further including a wavelength converter for converting at least some of the second set of wavelengths of the optical radiation to the first set of wavelengths. A contact element is also included for conveying at least some of the converted optical radiation to a skin surface to facilitate the dermatologic treatment.

A dermatologic treatment device, the device comprising: a light source emitting optical radiation having a plurality of wavelengths, the optical radiation including light exhibiting at least a first set of wavelengths and a second set of wavelengths, wherein the first set of wavelengths is beneficial for a dermatologic treatment, the first set of wavelengths including some wavelengths that are longer than other wavelengths within the first set of wavelengths; a wavelength selection element spatially separated from the light source and disposed between the light source and a contact element, the wavelength selection element separating at least some of the optical radiation exhibiting the second set of wavelengths from the optical radiation exhibiting the first set of wavelengths; and a waveguide disposed between the wavelength selection element and the contact element, the waveguide containing a wavelength converter including a composition of quantum dots arranged in layers such that the optical radiation exhibiting the second set of wavelengths impinges on a first layer of quantum dots before impinging on one or more subsequent layers of quantum dots, each layer of quantum dots converting, within the waveguide, at least some of the separated second set of wavelengths to optical radiation with wavelengths within the first set of wavelengths, the first layer of quantum dots converting impinging optical radiation exhibiting the second set of wavelengths to the longer wavelengths within the first set of wavelengths and each subsequent layer of quantum dots converting impinging optical radiation exhibiting the second set of wavelengths to shorter wavelengths within the first set of wavelengths than those wavelengths produced by a previous layer; wherein the contact element conveys at least some of the optical radiation exhibiting the first set of wavelengths, including the converted optical radiation, to a skin surface to facilitate the dermatologic treatment.
