<p>PURPOSE: An antibacterial composition containing a Lycoris radiata extract with excellent antibacterial and antioxidative activities is provided to be used for an antibacterial effect and to effectively protect skin from reactive oxygen species (ROS). CONSTITUTION: An antibacterial composition contains 10-1000 micrograms/ml of a Lycoris radiata extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using one organic solvent selected from the group consisting of methanol, hexane, methylene chloride, ethyl acetate, and butanol. The extract is also a fraction which is prepared by adding methanol to Lycoris radiata and fractioning with hexane, methylene chloride, ethyl acetate, or butanol. The extract contains one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of lycorenan, AC1LCW0L, daucosterol, and beta-sitosterol.
