<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical deflector used for optical axis correction of a laser source by means not requiring a movable part, high voltage and high-frequency power.SOLUTION: A temperature difference is made between a first metal piece 4 and a second metal piece 5 by operating an electronic cooling element 3, thereby generating a temperature distribution within a transparent medium 2 including a synthetic quartz glass as a material. A refractive index distribution is generated within the transparent medium 2 according to the temperature distribution. When the temperature of the first metal piece 4 is higher than that of the second metal piece 5, an incident laser beam 101 is deflected to an upper direction, and in an opposite case, the incident laser beam 101 is deflected to a lower direction. Power supplied to the electronic cooling element 3 is controlled so as to maintain a measured temperature difference constant while the temperatures of the first metal piece 4 and the second metal piece 5 are monitored using a first temperature sensor 6 and a second temperature sensor 7.</p> |
