PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a hybrid vehicle which can secure responsibility of the acceleration when an engine start request and a plurality of downshift requests are made during running in an EV mode.SOLUTION: A controller for a hybrid vehicle adjusts the coupling capacity of a second fastening element to be lower than the fastening capacity of a first fastening element so as to start a second downshift, regardless of the state of a first downshift, when a second downshift of reducing the fastening capacity of the second fastening element within a stepped automatic transmission is required during carrying out the first downshift while reducing the fastening capacity of the first fastening element within the stepped automatic transmission, in executing an engine startup control of starting an engine by fastening an engine clutch for switching from an electric car mode to a hybrid mode. |
