A method and system provide support for controlling a temperature of contents disposed into a waste item receptacle. A controller selects a desired temperature of the contents disposed into the waste item receptacle. A temperature sensor senses a current temperature of the contents disposed into the waste item receptacle. The controller adjusts the current temperature of the contents disposed into the waste item receptacle to the desired temperature when a difference in the current temperature and the desired temperature exceeds a temperature threshold.</p>
