One aspect of the invention relates to a cassette (74) for use with an ophthalmic surgery pump (16) for collecting aspirant fluid and tissue from a patient's eye. The cassette includes a rigid walled container (18) having an interior volume for collecting the aspirated fluid and tissue; and a fluid level indicator (34) forming a part of a wall of the container (22), such that an associated photo-detector (86) of the pump may determine a level of fluid in the container.
