摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep the temperature of an exhaust after-treatment system (catalyst temperature) at a constant level without largely deteriorating the fuel economy.SOLUTION: A control device of an internal combustion engine 10 comprises: an exhaust after-treatment system 11 arranged in an exhaust system 14 of the internal combustion engine 10; a variable valve train 12 for making the valve close timing of an intake valve of the internal combustion engine 10 variable; and control means 21 for delaying the valve close timing of the intake valve later than the bottom dead center by the variable valve train 12 in the low load region and the medium load region of the internal combustion engine 10 so that the compression ratio becomes smaller than the expansion ratio for suppressing a temperature drop of the exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust after-treatment system 11. The control means 21 so controls the variable valve train 12 that the delay of the valve close timing of the intake valve with respect to preset reference timing becomes larger as a load on the internal combustion engine 10 is lower.</p>
