PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber which has a function of absorbing unnecessary propagation light without adding new materials or articles such as a dopant and an optical absorption body to the optical fiber.SOLUTION: An optical fiber contains silicon dioxide as a main component. By irradiating silicon dioxide with radiation, an area where oxygen is lacked and an optical property is changed is formed, and the area where the optical property is changed absorbs light.
