PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reading device that can detect, with a single detection member, the open/close state of an opening/closing member that opens or closes a reading platen on which a document is placed, and that a reading member reading, while moving, the document placed on the reading platen has moved to a reference position; and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: In step 100, when a bending part is located at a position different from a detection position, a control unit determines that a platen cover is in a closed state. In step 200, the control unit moves a reading unit from the document detection position to a reference position and determines whether or not the reading unit has moved to the reference position. In particular, a detection member detects the bending part located at the detection position to determine that the reading unit has moved to the reference position. In this manner, a document reading device can detect the open/close state of an opening/closing member, and that a reading member has moved to the reference position with a single detection member. |
