This phosphor includes: crystals containing an element A, an element D, an element E, and an element X (where A is at least one element selected from Li, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, and La; D is at least one element selected from Si, Ge, Sn, Ti, Zr, and Hf; E is at least one element selected from B, Al, Ga, In, Sc, and Y; and X is at least one element selected from O, N, and F), and represented by Ba1Si4Al3N9; inorganic crystals having a crystal structure identical to that of crystals represented by Ba1Si4Al3N9; or an inorganic compound in the form of a solid solution of an element M (where M is at least one element selected from Mn, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, and Yb) in a solid solution of the crystals represented by Ba1Si4Al3N9 and the inorganic crystals having a crystal structure identical to that of crystals represented by Ba1Si4Al3N9.
