storing configuration data in one or more memory devices of a wagering game machine, the configuration data representing a configuration of the wagering game machine; generating, by at least one of one or more processors, a displayable code from the configuration data; and presenting the displayable code on a variable electronic display of the wagering game machine wherein the displayable code can be captured by a portable computing device.
