PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent lubricant from moving toward a developing device, while maintaining substantially fixed thickness of a lubricant layer on a photoreceptor drum.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes switching control means which selects a first mode which prevents lubricant applied on a photoreceptor drum surface from moving toward a developing device, or a second mode other than the first mode. During non-image formation, the first mode is selected as a development condition, and lubricant application means applies lubricant to the photoreceptor drum surface. In the first mode, the amount of developer to be conveyed by a developing sleeve to a position facing the photoreceptor drum can be made less than that in the second mode, or distance between the developing sleeve and the photoreceptor drum can be made larger than that in the second mode. |
