1. An accessible pedestrian signal system to assist persons crossing a signal-controlled intersection, comprising:
a post configured to support a pedestrian interface and pedestrian activation device, the post having a bottom end and a top end; a bottom base plate configured for long-term operative attachment to a surface material, the bottom base plate defining an aperture to accommodate wire connections there through; a sacrificial base plate configured for attaching to the bottom base plate and to the bottom end of the post, the sacrificial base plate defining an aperture to accommodate wire connections there through, the sacrificial base plate separated from the bottom base plate by a gap, and a plurality of connectors passing through the gap between the bottom base plate and the sacrificial base plate and connecting the bottom base plate to the sacrificial base plate; wherein the sacrificial base plate is configured to structurally fail more readily than the bottom base plate in response to a force being applied to the post. |
