PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide highly efficient shell-and-tube heat exchanger.SOLUTION: A shell-and-tube heat exchanger 10 comprises: a plurality of tubes 11 in which a first fluid 51 flows; a shell 30 accommodating therein the plurality of tubes 11 and flowing a second fluid to outside of the plurality of tubes 11; and tube plates 13A and 13B holding both ends of each of the plurality of tubes 11. Each of the plurality of tubes 11 has a wedge-shaped cross-section in a cross-sectional view perpendicular to a longitudinal direction, and the tubes 11 are arranged in a cylindrical shape with narrow gaps 12 formed between the adjacent tubes 11. The second fluid 52 passes through the narrow gaps 12 from a central portion of the shell 30.
