1. A fuel injector assembly adapted to inject a compressed fuel directly into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, the compressed fuel stored in a fuel storage tank at a fuel storage pressure and delivered to said fuel injection assembly through a fuel supply line at a fuel supply pressure that is lower than the fuel storage pressure, said fuel injector assembly comprising:
a fuel injector connected to the fuel supply line, the fuel injector configured to inject the compressed fuel; and an adapter valve positioned between said fuel injector and the combustion chamber, said adapter valve having an inlet and an outlet, said inlet adapted to receive a portion of said fuel injector, and said outlet in communication with the combustion chamber, said adapter valve allowing the compressed fuel injected by said fuel injector to be discharged from said outlet into the combustion chamber in an injection direction while preventing blowback gas from passing through said adapter valve in an ingress direction opposite said injection direction. |
