摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of achieving high contrast by optically compensating both the phase difference of the front direction and the phase difference of the oblique direction without damaging the miniaturization of the device, and to provide a projection type display device having the liquid crystal device.SOLUTION: This liquid crystal device includes a WG-PBS 93a, a liquid crystal panel 80, and a polarizing analyzer 92a. The liquid crystal panel 80 is arranged on a first optical path P1 of the light having transmitted through the WG-PBS 93a, and the polarizing analyzer 92a is arranged on the same surface side as the liquid crystal panel 80 with respect to the WG-PBS 93a and on a second optical path P2 of the light having been reflected by the WG-PBS 93a. A first phase difference compensation plate 60a is disposed on the first optical path P1 between the WG-PBS 93a and liquid crystal panel 80. A second phase difference compensation plate 65 is disposed on the second optical path P2 between the WG-PBS 93a and polarizing analyzer 92a.
