PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide expanded moldings of thermoplastic resin which are light-weight, of excellent heat insulating properties and cushioning properties, as well as a method for manufacturing these expanded moldings of thermoplastic resin. SOLUTION: The expanded moldings of thermoplastic resin are characterized as the following formation of constituent layers. A face and a back expanded layers 2 and 2 are formed on the inner surfaces of a face and a back skin layer 1 and 1 respectively, and a core layer 3 is sandwiched between the face and the back expanded layers 2 and 2. In addition, the core layer 3 is constituted of numerous fine short fibrous resin materials 3a with both upper/lower ends connecting with the mutually opposite surfaces of the face and back expanded layers 2 and 2, and a void 3b formed between the adjacent short fibrous resin materials 3a.
