PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a failure quickly and accurately, and to simplify a configuration for detecting the failure. SOLUTION: The image forming device includes a fixing unit having a heater H that generates heat and emits light by energization, an energization switching unit 8 that switches on/off of the energization to the heater H, a control unit 6 that controls the switching operation of the energization switching unit 8, and a light emission detection unit PH. The control unit 6 detects that the energization switching unit 8 has failed if a light emission detection signal indicating that light emission of the heater is detected by the light emission detection unit PH is obtained when the energization switching unit 8 is controlled to turn off the energization to the heater.
