PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the stopping of a refrigerator by putting the refrigerator in action to the utmost without immediately stopping the refrigerator even if a high-pressure side pressure abnormally increases. SOLUTION: The capacity control type screw refrigerator includes a screw compressor, a condenser for a refrigerant of an air-cooled type comprising a plurality of fan motors, and a low-pressure side pressure sensor for detecting the low-pressure side pressure of the screw compressor. In an operation control method for the capacity control type screw refrigerator, a full-load operation and an unload operation are selectively switched depending on a pressure value detected by the low-pressure side pressure sensor. An abnormal rotation detecting means for detecting abnormal rotation is provided to correspond to each of the plurality of fan motors. When some of the fan motors cause the abnormal rotation in the case 62 where the abnormal rotation is detected by the abnormal rotation detecting means, control is performed to stop the fan motors causing the abnormal rotation and forcedly shift the operation of the screw compressor to the unload operation 78.
